Geofill LD Marine Placed Underwater
Mixonsite utilized a Geofill LD Marine material containing anti-washout admixtures to fill an abandoned ash pit at the Consolidated Edison site in Brooklyn, NY. Free water within the pit was removed during placement to maintain the specified pit water level.
Geofill LD Marine is specifically formulated for use in underwater grouting applications. These grouts are lightweight, low permeability, materials, that remains in a cohesive, well blended mix when placed or pumped in submerged conditions.
Geofill LD Marine cellular concrete can be placed underwater to encapsulate and protect timber piles that make up a structure of a pair or dock that are under attack by Shipworms, Marine Borers or other organisms.
For structures adjacent to waterways, subsidence and washouts (structural issues) can occur due to erosion. Affected areas may include roads, parking lots, retaining walls and sheet piling. Geofill can be placed underwater or in wet conditions to fill voids. These lightweight, low permeability materials effectively displace water, do not segregate and are highly flowable.
Geofill LD Marine offers several advantages, even underwater:
- Applicable in wet, underwater or marine applications
- Displaces water effectively
- Will fill small or hard to reach voids
- Extremely flowable and pumpable
